The quality of a mobile telephone network is mainly linked with the air interface between the terminal and the network. Unlike the fixed network, where error rates are very low, an air interface is of mediocre, fluctuating quality. Moreover, the presence of relatively close transmitters using the same frequencies causes interference which must be limited in order to ensure good quality of service.
