This module covers the architecture and technologies related to mobile communications and their extensions to satellite communications.
The first part addresses the specifics of the "radio-mobile" channel, air interfaces and mobility management. This part ends with a coverage the various standard technologies (UMTS, LTE, DECT).
In a second part, the focus is put on mobile satellite communications, including how to broadcast multimedia data to mobile terminals directly from the satellite or by using an ancillary terrestrial components. The provision of a return channel (i.e., from the terminal to the network) is also discussed.
The last part covers the specifics of aeronautical communications at the light of the forthcoming evolution carried on by the SESAR project.
