F2B403C: Automatic processing of natural languages

Coordinator:  Yannis HARALAMBOUS

Presentation

The automatic processing of natural languages TALN is a domain of informatics which tries to model linguistic phenomena present in human communication and to implement mechanisms enabling us to analyse them (comprehension) or reproduce them( text generation).
The theoretical (especially modelisation of meaning) and technical (for example efficient management of ambiguity) challenges are numerous and are made more complex by language diversity.
The industrial stakes are high and range from applications which have reached a level of maturity allowing operational use (research information, automatic summary, interpretation of style SMS) to more ambitious long-term projects (the mythical automatic translation of high quality).
