This course is dedicated to the comprehension of architectural issues in the design, development and integration of Information System applications. Old Information systems, since they were based on hierarchical and rigid organisation, were mainly composed of non-related data-oriented applications, where databases imposed both methods and languages. Enterprise evolutions (strategy, outsourcing, acquisition)combined with commputer science evolutions (methods, models and technologies) demands to Information to provide real-time support to enterprise strategy. This evolution consists in : - improving interaction and integration between different part of the enterprise Information system (through for example EAI : Enterprise Application Integration), initially juxtaposed without logic. - improving decision aid information systems (datawarehouses, data mining for example), obtained from operational Information system of the company, but that provide some powerful added value knowledge. In such a context, components as DBMS or workflow management systems are still fundamental technical components : their content, data or process, is the memory of the company. Though, facing new integration needs, architectural issues are major and lead to solutions like Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). In any case, complexity of these new systems demand ad-hoc formalisms and rigourous methodologies. This course contains both methodological and technical teachings concerning application architecture and integration. | |
